As a former resident, I can tell you that there are few places in the city where you will be so hands on. We almost never had a foot fellow and the hand fellow held retractors for us. The shoulder fellow does the complex shoulder and hands off a good deal of the standard scopes. We now have a ridiculously busy spine service and a steadily rising pediatric business.
I would not say that we are a "community" program at all. This is a university program with people that are of an academic mindset.
Most people who come and rotate end up putting this program high on their rank list.
