Main campus is located in Downtown Detroit
with numerous satellite hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers in West Bloomfield, Dearborn, Sterling heights, Novi, among others.
It is a 30 resident program with 6 spots per year with one sports fellow
Henry Ford has a solid reputation as the best ortho surgery program in the city of Detroit
This program offers a well rounded operative experience with representation in all subspecialties.
There are numerous opportunities for research; they have one of the few joint motion analysis labs in the nation able to do in vivo joint motion analysis with 3D reconstruction and tomosynthesis.
This is a good Orthopaedic surgery program for residents that want to learn to be a surgeon, with dedicated and protected academic and research time.
The main hospital is basically run by Residents and is very blue collar. It can be pretty busy but you learn a lot quickly.
Later in residency you do many of your rotations in the ambulatory centers and satellite hospitals, away from the main campus.
Comraderie is strong amongst the residents, with ample social events including Meatfest, Department Golf outing, graduation activities and holiday parties. Didactics are twice weekly, wednesdays and Fridays.
1mth Rotations as Intern: Radiology, Anesthesia, Ortho hospitalist medicine, Plastics, Ortho-Joints, Ortho-Sports, 2mths of SICU, Gen surg Trauma, Vascular, Pediatric Surgery at DMC, Ortho-night float
Interview Dates begin in late November and run until late January.
